Holiday.

Pack the bags and pack the car

Fill up on gasoline

Run to the grocery store

Bumper to bumper

Arrival at last

Pull up the driveway

Inquire where to park

Joyous greetings and help with bags

Unpack the groceries

Refrigerator is full

Take it downstairs to Grandma’s

Hugs and kisses for Grandma

Snacks passed all around

Others arrive and repeat

Begin the festivities

An hour to explain

Two hours to play the game

Sabotage each other

Whomever brought the game wins

Clean up and start cooking

Pass the baby around

Three kinds of mashed tubers

Bake the casseroles

Fry the turkey outside

Boil the cranberries

Toss the papaya salad

Grandma ascends the stairs

Kitchen frenzy; set the table

Fill the glasses and fill the seats

Thank the Lord for His goodness

Thank the Lord for trials and joys

Thank the Lord for each other

From youngest to oldest

Feast, feast, feast

Pause the meal for a photograph

Sing thanks to the Lord for His salvation

Sing thanks to the Lord for His Son

Sing thanks to the Lord for Love itself

Clear the table and fill the sink

Tupperware out and food away

Pies upon pies upon pies

Warm cider in the crockpot

Take turns cleaning dishes

Grandma descends the stairs

Time for a new game

Run the dishwasher

Read the rule book together

The chosen few play while others watch

Pass around the spiced ale

Onlookers wander away

Bend the rules to end it already

Agree to never play again

Tidy up and lights out

Head upstairs and make the beds

Wait for a bathroom to be free

Collapse in the bed

Sleep soundly and safely

Dream of younger days
